This firsthand experience gave us a unique insight into the intricacies of residential construction—from the complexities of building codes to the demands of a high-quality build. We saw the immense potential of the American Barndominium—a style celebrated for its durability and architectural freedom—and set out to perfect it for the Australian way of life. Our sister company, Longhorn Designs, forged a unique partnership with leading US design experts to ensure our plans captured that genuine, authentic influence. Luke Fryer is the Founder and Managing Director of Longhorn Barndominiums, Australia's only home builder dedicated to designing and constructing Barndominiums, a bold new housing style that blends rural charm with architectural sophistication
Luke brings an in-depth knowledge and passion for design excellence, having spent 15 years as General Manager at Metricon, Australia’s largest home builder, where he led operations across New South Wales and Queensland. His time there shaped a deep understanding of what Australians want in a home, and how to deliver a first-class customer experience from concept to completion.
After leaving Metricon, Luke served as CEO of Australasian Retail Projects, building high-end retail spaces for global fashion brands across Australia and New Zealand. This fusion of residential and commercial design experience sparked the vision for Longhorn.
To bring this vision to life, Luke spent extensive time in the United States, particularly in Texas, immersing himself in the heritage and craftsmanship of barndominium design and construction. That hands-on research has made Luke Australia’s foremost expert in barndominiums, a specialist product that blends lifestyle, luxury, and architectural impact.
Longhorn is now leading the charge to introduce this fresh, design-forward housing style to Australia, marking the first major shift in residential architecture since the rise of the Hamptons nearly two decades ago.
